This is for all the selfie lovers out there. Mobile making companies have started to hear the cries of all the selfie loving people and have started making devices which cater to this specific need. Gone are the days when you had to try and take a nice picture of yourself using the back camera because the front camera didn’t provide the same details in its pictures. It was all down to luck and most of the times we failed.

But now we have devices that boast of 5MP and 8MP front facing cameras. Then we have the likes of OPPO N1 and N3 which have rotating 13MP and 16MP cameras so you can take awesome pictures from both sides.

Well we are here to talk about the Lumia 730, which doesn’t boast of a rotating camera. But it does have a front facing 5MP camera and is the first of its kind in the Windows Phone lineup.
Yes the Lumia 730 is built specifically for taking selfies with a 5MP wide-angle front camera which is also capable of taking full HD (1080p) videos. Wide-angle means that you can fit more people into your selfies. On the back it has a 6.7MP camera. Doesn’t sound much. But what matters here is the sensor. It has Zeiss optics and as you know more megapixels doesn’t always mean better pictures. It is also capable of recording videos at full HD resolution.

HARDWARE

The device supports a 4.7 inch HD (720p) OLED display with Nokia’s Clear Black technology. So you can expect a very good display quality. The pixel density comes out to be 316 ppi. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, which will prevent scratches to the display.

The Lumia 730 is powered by a Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz quad core processor coupled with 1 GB of RAM and an Adreno 305 GPU. This should make the device perform fairly well. The internal storage is 8 GB and can be expanded up to 128GB using a micro SD card. The device houses a 2200 mAh battery which Nokia says gives the device a talk time of 17 to 22 hours.

SOFTWARE

The Lumia 730 comes with the latest Windows Phone 8.1 update Denim and has all the features such as Live folders, notification center, etc. Windows Phone is good but can’t be compared with the likes of Android and iOS still. But it has a lot of room for improvement.

The Lumia 730 is available here in India for INR 14,950 from Flipkart.

The trend right now in the smartphone department is, phones with large screens. Devices have grown bigger and bigger and the gap between a tablet and a phone is growing smaller and smaller. These so called ‘phablets’ (a phone which has a screen so big it can also be called a tablet) have screens as big as 6 inches. So now the question is how much bigger can they get. Because a device with a screen size of 7 inches is considered a tablet.

As the phones are getting bigger and bigger, we can also see that they are getting thinner and thinner. Mobile making companies have been trying to make devices thin as possible. Pushing the boundaries of making a thin smartphone. The thinnest smartphone until now was the Gionee Elife S5.5, which was a mere 5.55mm thick. But now we have a new champion.

Ladies and Gentlemen, say hello to the thinnest smartphone in the world. The OPPO R5!
The Gionee Elife S5.5 was pretty thin at 5.55mm. But the OPPO R5 has set a new target. This device is a mind blowing, 4.85mm thick. (Take a minute to grasp that).

The concern now would be (because of the iPhone 6 Plus Bendgate issue), will such a thin phone be sturdy and strong. Well, let us see what the phone has to offer other than being thin.

The frame of the phone is made up of hand polished 3D-welded aluminum alloy. So the metal frame should give the phone a very solid build. It has a 5.2 inch AMOLED display with full HD (1080p) resolution. That gives a pixel density of 423 ppi. It is powered by a Snapdragon 615 processor which is a mid-ranged octa core processor for Qualcomm. Clocked at 1.5GHz with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM, the device should perform very well.

It houses a 13MP primary camera with Sony sensors and f2.0 aperture and the front camera is a 5MP shooter which should produce some nice selfies for the selfie lovers. Even though the device is so thin, OPPO has managed to cramp into it a 2000mAh battery which supports rapid charging.

The device comes with Android 4.4 KitKat with OPPO’s ColorOS 2.0. Other specials features is that, OPPO has said that it has added special cooling features to prevent the device from over-heating.

OPPO has said that the device will be available from December for $499 in gold, silver and grey colors.
